A Note from the Sudbury Education’ Association…..
As many of you know, the Sudbury Education Association hosts a few events throughout the year. One of the events, the Softball Bonanza, has become our largest fundraising event. This year it will be held on May 10th at the Curtis Middle School. It is a really great community builder in which teachers, students and families can come together in a non academic environment. The main draw is the softball game in which teachers from all the schools play against the Curtis Middle School softball team. In addition, we have other events happening simultaneously. There is a game called “Beat the Bucket” where students can get back at their teachers for all those challenging homework assignments. Students and families can also purchase raffle tickets for any of the baskets that have been put together by each of the schools. We will also be selling pizza and snacks so families don’t have to worry about dinner for the night. The proceeds support the Wally Bell Scholarship fund. The scholarship fund has been in existence for over 40 years. A few years ago, it was renamed to honor Wally Bell who taught at Haynes for many years before he passed away in 2002. Because of the success of this event, we will be able to present each of 6 Lincoln Sudbury graduating students with $1,000 scholarships. A committee is formed each year who is charged with the challenge of determining the recipients. The committee bases their decisions on a blend of character, academic effort and community service. The number of teachers involved in this event is impressive. Teachers are involved in developing the raffle baskets, setting up the event, selling pizza, playing softball, getting drenched in the beat the bucket game as well as serving on the selection committee. It’s another event that highlights how being a Sudbury teacher is more of a “calling” than a job. Teachers are giving our kids their everything. This is a great event and I hope you, the school committee as well as any Sudbury residents, consider joining in the fun. Remember...May 10 5-6:30!!!! Go ahead...put it on your schedules! |
